"My son's illness"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital / Gastroenterology South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a parent/guardian),

My son, who was a young very fit man, developed acute Crohns. After suffering first from Ulcerative colitis, it turned into Crohns. Unfortunately just as we went into lockdown because of Covid19 his conditioned worsened and he needed a stoma, bypassing his big colon. Surgery went well but he came home after only two days, because of the danger of the virus. My daughter-in-law and I tried to give him the level of care required but because he was so nauseous and had deep painful hiccups for days on end it was very difficult. He was scared of eating. Last night he collapsed and we called an ambulance. They arrived in 15 minutes and showed such professionalism, care and compassion. Now he is getting his stoma unblocked and being hydrated. WE owe a great debt to the NHS and especially the ambulance crew and paramedics. Grateful.

Thank you very much for sharing your kind comments on the service your son received. I can understand how frightening the situation was for you all and I was so pleased to hear how pleased you were with the members of staff who attended him.

In order that we can pass your comments onto the members of staff concerned, we need to know the address to which the ambulance was called. Please can you email us at pet@secamb.nhs.uk as I know the members of staff will be very pleased to read your comments.

We look forward to hearing from you.

I hope your son is now making a good recovery.

Best wishes

Marie
