"Having to wait for help"

About: Borders General Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

I had buzzed for a nurse as I was experiencing pain I  my chest area and up to my left shoulder. I was crying in pain and had to wait for over an hour to be seen by a doctor. I was told on one occasion by a nurse to stop buzzing because I would be seen when I was seen. It made me feel like they didnt care about my pain and that they were stretched to thin. I understand the demand on the healthcare professionals but leaving patients in pain for over an hour is ridiculous.

Dear Lemonade mouth

I am very sorry to hear the details of your experience when you were an inpatient at the Borders General Hospital. Patients should not have to suffer in pain without help and be made to feel like the staff do not care for them. I would like to investigate this further and ask that you please contact me on (01896) 827202 or karen.maitland@borders.scot.nhs.uk in order for me to gather further information such as the ward you were in and dates of your admission. I will then be able to speak directly with the staff involved in your care.

Regards,

Karen
