My mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer in July 2018 and was recently admitted to Ward 4A at Crosshouse Hospital following surgery. She was then discharged home, however was readmitted 2 days later to ward 4C. Unfortunately my mum deteriorated rather quickly and subsequently passed away in the ward on 26th September. I just wanted to take the time to thank all staff within the ward for their care and compassion whilst maintaining dignity of my mum at this time. In particular I would like to mention nurses Claire and Megan and the auxiliary nurse (Terri? ), these girls stood out to myself as being passionate in their role and went out their way to make my mum feel comfortable and responded to her needs at such a difficult time, whilst also ensuring us as the family were looked after in particular during the night. My mum spoke highly of all staff that looked after her in both wards. My mum was an employee of NHS Ayrshire and Arran for 34 years and I am also an employee, too many times we hear negative stories of the care and treatment provided by our NHS, however I have to say on our recent personal experience we can't thank all staff who dealt with my mum throughout her journey and it makes you appreciate how lucky we are to have access to services which respond to our needs, although it wasnt the outcome we hoped for my mum it was made easier knowing she was well looked after on her final days. Thanks again, on behalf of the family of Margaret.
"A heartfelt thank you"
