"A heartfelt thank you"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / General Surgery

(as a relative),

My mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer in July 2018 and was recently admitted to Ward 4A at Crosshouse Hospital following surgery.   She was then discharged home, however was readmitted 2 days later to ward 4C. Unfortunately my mum deteriorated rather quickly and subsequently passed away in the ward on 26th September. I just wanted to take the time to thank all staff within the ward for their care and compassion whilst maintaining dignity of my mum at this time.   In particular I would like to mention nurses Claire and Megan and the auxiliary nurse (Terri? ), these girls stood out to myself as being passionate in their role and went out their way to make my mum feel comfortable and responded to her needs at such a difficult time, whilst also ensuring us as the family were looked after in particular during the night. My mum spoke highly of all staff that looked after her in both wards. My mum was an employee of NHS Ayrshire and Arran for 34 years and I am also an employee, too many times we hear negative stories of the care and treatment provided by our NHS, however I have to say on our recent personal experience we can't thank all staff who dealt with my mum throughout her journey and it makes you appreciate how lucky we are to have access to services which respond to our needs, although it wasnt the outcome we hoped for my mum it was made easier knowing she was well looked after on her final days. Thanks again, on behalf of the family of Margaret.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear DLister,

Pease accept my condolences on the loss of your mum. It is always sad to hear of a loved one passing but (from personal experience) I know how important great care is towards and at end of life. The lasting impact it has on the family cannot be quantified. So I am heartened and pleased to hear that your mum’s care, a the most important time, was as good.

I have passed this on to the teams in both 4A and 4C and I am sure it will have been received with gratitude. All feedback is important but the feedback you have so kindly given, at such a difficult time, will be appreciated greatly.

Thank you

Eunice
