"We returned home instead because of hospital parking"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres

(as a relative),

Today at 10.30am my mother who is 87 years old & visually impaired was sent to Hairmyres for a x ray by GP . After driving around parking several time to find a space ,noticing that car were parked on footpaths and pedestrian crossings,we had to concede defeat and returned home as mother was getting agitated & upset. Is it the case that to get a parking space for patient & staff you have to arrive before 7am rush hour. Its about time that parking should be ticked  & validated by clinic or ward to allow patient , visitor parking

to made easier.Train commuters  can use the bus service provided.

I am sorry that you and your mother experienced difficulties parking at Hairmyres whilst trying to attend an appointment. I understand how frustrating this would have been for you both. If we can help with the rescheduling of your mother's x-ray appointment please contact our patient affairs team on 01355 585325.

The free car park at University Hospital Hairmyres is intended for use by patients, visitors and healthcare staff. To make sure that the car park is used correctly, checks are routinely undertaken by our security/car park staff. Adhesive warning notices are attached to inappropriately parked cars advising the driver that their vehicle is parked in a space for ‘Disabled Badge Holders only’, on double yellow lines, partially on a footpath, in a no parking area, obstructing an entrance or in a manner which causes obstruction to ambulances or the fire department. Security/car parking staff also attempt to speak directly to drivers who park inappropriately.

These measures have had some impact but, unfortunately, we still experience issues around lack of available spaces, made worse by a number of people who access the site inappropriately to park, when they have no need to use the hospital. We are planning to implement a new traffic management system to help ensure car parking spaces are used correctly. This process is under development and we hope it to be operational in the coming months. In the interim the Hospital will continue to monitor parking and discourage those parking in the car park inappropriately.
