My mother was admitted yesterday with severe bleeding.
We came to see her, but live a considerable distance outside the area. Totally appreciate that you are undergoing renovations, and that visitor care is not a priority, but please do something to address your defects in signage.
I fully realise that the temptation is strong; when you work in a place you soon get used to where things are, and cannot comprehend how someone could possibly get lost. But please bear in mind that visitors are likely under some degree of stress - my mother was in resuscitation and we were in fear for her life.
I very much wanted to be with her; the information point was not manned, someone was using the phone for what sounded like a personal chat, I asked several people and tried to work out your diagrams but found them of little help (and to be told "everyone gets lost" is more a cause for shame than humour).
Temporary signs would be fine, something knocked up on a computer - no one is going to judge by appearance, just content. And maybe you could mask out the "way out" signs that lead the unsuspecting to a closed off building site.
Please take this as constructive - the nursing care and patient concern seems to be extremely high, and I certainly would not sacrifice either for the benefit of next of kin. I just wanted to give an outsider's view.
And a prominent file opposite bed 2 in resuscitation boldly marked "ORGAN DONATION" might not be the best thing for a patient to look at.
"Please improve the hospital signage"
