"Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and consideration"

About: Dedridge Health Centre

(as a service user),

I am writing on behalf of my husband in regard to his visit with a member of staff.

We are both extremely disappointed with the way that my husband was treated. He called to have an appointment with a Dr but could only see another member of staff.

The first thing this person said to my husband was that they couldn’t give him any drugs! How rude and assumptive of them! My husband came to the surgery this morning to discuss how Ill he has been feeling over the last few weeks and is struggling at work - as my husband's doctor knows, he has silicosis and problems with his back for which he takes morphine every day.

Due to him being in pain every single day of his life and his body is continually fighting this his immune system is not good as he was told by his doctor. When he was at work recently one of his workmates had a cold and unfortunately my husband caught this and when he gets a cold it knocks him for 6.

My husband  attended the surgery to ask for a sick line as he is currently not well enough for work - I see him every day and how much he suffers in pain and with every bug that hits him - your staff member seemed to decide that he is well enough for work because he can lift his arms up and touch his toes! What on earth does that have to do with anything! My husband has pain in his back every day lifting his arms up or touching his toes is irrelevant to the pain he feels.

Both of us are hard working tax paying people neither of us are drug addicts which seems to me that is the assumption made by your staff because
1. how my husband looks - did you ever consider that the ravages of illness and pain have done that to him?
And 2. Not everyone who lives in Dedridge is a drug addict. And quite frankly that is how your staff are treating this poor man who has worked constantly since he was 16 and he is now in his fifties

How can you people make such assumptions about your patients, why can’t you understand that some of us are genuinely ill and need your help and not to be treated like a liar, faker and a cheat!

My husband and I look forward to hearing from you on this matter and incidentally your staff member said he would speak to a doctor and call my husband back and I’m not surprised this hasn’t happened.

Incidentally if nothing is done about this we do intend to take this matter further as everyone deserves to be treated with respect and consideration which we feel clearly hasn’t happened here.
