What I liked
I was admitted to the A&E at Dewsbury and district hospital on the 25/03/2012, with severe abominal pain. I needed an emergency operation. I was in the operating theatre for 3 hours. It was a big major operation. The sergeons saved my life, I thank them all very much. The operation I had was a Laparotomy. They removed a large section of the intestine and the bowel and colon. After the operation I was admitted to the ICU for 5 days, I was on a life support machine. I then went to HDU for about a week, and then I went to ward 12. I now have a colostomy, I wear a stoma bag now, I am getting on with it OK.
I have had excellent care all of the time I was in hospital. The stoma nurse has given me the confidence to live with this and how to change the bag. So far I have had few problems with it.
It is a new experience for me something I will have to learn to live with, and the excellent care I received from the A&E to being on ward 12. I lucky to be alive. This hospital saved my life. They are truley great, what a great hospital.
I have been in this hospital before with respiratory problems, I was on ward 8 for 2 weeks and I received the very best of care then.
I was discharged on the 18/04/2012. I have been getting follow-up care from the hospital. The district nurse and the stoma nurse visits my home when needed.
My experience through this ordeal, was quite scarey for me, but I was put a ease by the doctors and nurses. I was told I will make a full recovery, but it will take time, I have there confidence that I will recover. I thank all the staff who took care of me when I was ill, and for saveing my life. Thank you Dewsbury hospital.
What could be improved
You do not need to make any improvments, every stage of my treatment was first class.
