We were surprised to see my father deteriorate so quickly in the hospital as he fought through delirium in his last days. The doctors did not talk to us about treatment changes occurring before us, even though we were there and asking questions. It seemed only certain doctors were designated to talk to us (family). This was frustrating.
Then doctors used language that was bullying, pushing us to agree to treatment plans without explaining the situation. This made us feel defensive. We were trying to understand our father's situation, but instead the doctors wanted us to give up on him!
One nurse finally took the time to listen, explain, and listen some more. Karen was the best!
