"Care and Support for Adults at Home"

About: Glasgow City Health & Social Care Partnership

(as a carer),

These events are about the lack care, support and compassion for adults and their carers. It involves myself as a carer for my brother. There is a long and complicated history, but I will focus here on events over the last four weeks.

Four weeks ago I had arranged with Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership for carers to support my brother with his personal care and to provide him with his meals and medication. The reason this care was provided was to enable me to pack up my own flat and move my possessions into storage before giving up my tenancy. I have been caring full time 24 hours a day for my brother for the last two years.

Unfortunately, on the first day I was at my flat, I had a heart attack and was admitted to hospital. This of course meant that I was not able to complete the task of ending my tenancy. Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership extended the care for two weeks , but have now withdrawn that care.

I have pleaded with them to continue the care for my brother while I recover, but they have refused. The reason they have given is that my brother can only be cared for in a residential home.  They have refused to provide any support other than permanent residential care.

I am more than willing to support my brother and enable him to remain in his own home.  However, at this moment in time I need help and support.

It is a shocking indictment of the hostile environment that Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership has created when they refuse to recognise his rights and my rights.
