"Accident breaking my leg"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency Sunderland Royal Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I slipped on black ice and my husband took me to Sunderland Royal Hospital A and E.   I was transferred over to Pallion acute care where I was seen immediately by a nurse who then sent me for an X-ray and then advised my ankle was fractured in 2 places. I then had a back slab fitted and was given crutches this took less than an hour. Then given an appointment to attend fracture clinic at 2pm same day. Seen by a consultant and cast fitted. I had excellent care and support at every stage from every member of staff which made a difficult time much easier for me.
