Having recently suffered a mini-stroke in my eye I was very concerned when I had further problems in the same eye. After contacting the emergency eye clinic, which in itself is not easy as there is no obvious number to call, I got through to an answerphone, left a message and waited anxiously for a return call.
Along with advice, I was given an appointment for 1.30 pm yesterday. I booked in at 1.15 pm and waited along with a few other people. Obviously everyone there like me was very anxious due to problems /injuries to our eyes. Two hours later I had seen other people arrive after me, be seen by a nurse then the doctor. I queried with reception in case I had been forgotten but was informed the doctor was running late. Still sitting there after 3 hours I was becoming extremely anxious and asked reception again they queried whether I had seen a nurse, I still hadn't - I was told to take a seat again and someone would come and get me.
Eventually a nurse put drops in my eyes and I then had to wait another 20 minutes for them to take affect before seeing the doctor.
The doctor called me in and apologised as my notes had just turned up on their desk and said I should have been seen hours ago.
Waiting to find out about vision problems is a very worrying time and this exceptionally long wait caused me a great deal of unnecessary anxiety.
This should have been sorted the first time I queried why my wait was so long.
