"Labour/Folkestone ward"

About: William Harvey Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I was admitted with a large amount of blood loss and contractions to the labour ward. The labour ward were fantastic, and were very attentive but the folkestone ward i was transferred to for monitoring was pure hell at times.

A registrar came in and said my symptoms were normal after giving birth (I am currently 30 weeks pregnant), and gave me medication that caused me to hallucinate and shouldn't be given to pregnant women. This registrar didn't even recognise that my bloods were showing that I was still pregnant.

The midwives are a mixed bag. Some are lovely and very good. Others are extremely rude and poorly trained. Some implied i was making my symptoms up and were extremely abrupt and tactless with me and others.

Many women were left with hungry babies as they weren't helped with breastfeeding. One woman was in labour and was told to stop being silly when she was crying out in pain by a midwife. It was hours before she was transferred to the labour ward. Half the time the women on the ward were trying to help each other because the midwives wouldn't listen.

Many midwives were students who were not being properly supervised. Yet the student midwives did a far better job than those supposedly qualified.

Many women were forced out of the ward after giving birth when they couldn't even stand.

If I had any other choice I would not be using this hospital to give birth at. I have lost all faith and will not trust anyone to look after me there.

I'm sure there are many women out there who have had far worse experiences than me at this hospital in terms of their maternity care.

I will avoid it if I can. I would not rely on anyone to be able to take care of me or my newborn baby who works in Folkestone ward. I would not spend any longer than necessary in this hospital.
