My sister and I recently visited the A&E dept during the night with our 95yr old father,
The room in which we were placed had suction equipment left uncleaned(covered in blood) from the last patient.
Not one member of staff introduced themselves or asked my father what he wanted to be called.
When i pointed this out a member of staff gave me a lecture that they were obliged to call him by his legal name,i work in the NHS and far as I'm aware staff should ask how the patient wishes to be addressed.
When my father asked who this woman was we were told nurse practitioner-still no name.
My father spent the whole night on a trolley until he was transferred to a ward bed at lunch time the next day.No information was given and there was no time to discuss anything before we were transferred to the ward. The nurse on the ward was however very helpful gave us lots of information and actually listened to us.
