"C section delivery"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Maternity

(as the patient),

The care me and baby received for our planned c section delivery was exemplary. The doctors and anaesthetists and midwives were all so kind and caring, so reassuring and thoughtful which really helped our stay and importantly the safe delivery of our sixth baby.

I only have one grumble and that’s that when I had my other babies there were certain toilets just for the mums and the visitors had to use another toilet. This time on the new ward anyone can use the toilet with the shower in on the postnatal ward. Just before I went to have a shower a man was in there with really dirty shoes and then I was worried about putting my things down and infection control and germs etc post c section. If only mums could use that toilet I think it would be better for infection control post delivery.

Other than that I can’t complain. You have helped me have six healthy children and I’m forever thankful.

Dear Bex897

Thank you for your positive post following your recent C Section at the Royal Cornwall hospital. It is really kind of you to give great feedback at this time when you are so busy with the new addition to your family.

I am pleased to see that the caring, kind and thoughtful attitudes of the staff made you feel safe and reassured during your stay with us.

Thank you for bringing the duel sex toilets to our attention. As you will have noticed our buildings are old and do not always meet the modern requirements of a maternity unit. We need to provide male facilities on the postnatal ward as we have extended our offer of stay to partners. We did try designating this area for male visitors only, but soon realised that we could not accommodate the female need. Therefore opened it to dual use. I am sorry that this made you feel uncomfortable.

The ward has housekeepers and support workers who could have cleaned the area before your use if it was brought to our attention at the time. We are always vulnerable to how others users leave our facilities after their personnel use and outside of scheduled cleaning time rely on all staff to report areas that could be cleaner.

On a positive note the executive team here are supporting the service to lobby the health service for a new build to accommodate all womens and childrens services. we hope to hear the outcome of this lobbing over the next 18 months.

Once again thank you for your post. Wishing you and your family well

kind regards

Trudie Roberts
