"Eye Unit appointments for glaucoma"

About: Southampton General Hospital / Ophthalmology

I am supposed to be closely monitored for my type of glaucoma, and told I should be seen every 3 months.

I had to fight to get an appointment for July 2018 after initially being told the only available appointment was the 18th March 2019.

I was extremely upset and worried to be told this.

I contacted the West Hampshire CCG who agreed it was unacceptable, and with their help and the Patient Support Service they got me an appointment for the 16th July 2018. At that appointment I was told I needed to be seen again in another 3 months time - October 2018. I am worried that once again I will have to fight for get an appointment in October.

I am 78 and have no family to support me, and the prospect of always having to fight for timely appointments for the rest of my life is very depressing. I know this is a nationwide problem, but it is completely unacceptable that myself and no doubt other glaucoma patients (and maybe those with other types of eye disease) should have to experience this worry and distress.
