What could be improved
My mother in law was in a ward where she was left without proper attention. She was left without fluids, as she could no longer feed herself she had no food as they just put the food on the table out of her reach, and she was left soiled. No matter how many times I complained nothing changed. It was a nightmare. The staff have a didn't care less attitude and the place is dirty. She went in several times with chest infections and eventually dies through poor care. All the old people in there were frail and thin and they are left to rot, it's disgraceful and the staff just say we are short staffed.
The staff could have stopped standing around talking and dealt with all the elderly, the staff had a I don't care attitude and even when told my mother in law had to have thickener in her fluids they didn't do it, when challenged they said they had a shift change over and didn't know. I had to go up every day to make sure she had something to drink. Disgraceful
Anything else?
"NHS hospitals must provide same-sex accommodation. " This isn't the case my mother in law was in a little part of a ward and beyond it was totally male. Anyone of them could have gone into the side ward.
The hospital seems to have a lot of staff for the cleaning but we found at night many were asleep in chairs. There seems to be a tremendous amount of wasted time and the staff are rushed off their feet, but a lot are just Rude.....
"A nightmare!"
