I was diagnosed in December 2017 with a tumour on my left kidney. This was a complete shock to me at the time but my consultant and cancer care nurse could not have been more understanding and caring as they explained what was going to happen next.
I was booked in for an operation in January, and on the day of the surgery I was extremely nervous but I would say to anyone facing the same please don't be.The theatre staff were brilliant and I could not fault the Anaesthetist he asked me what music I liked to listen to and played it to me as I drifted off to sleep.
When I was recovering in the ward afterwards my consultant spent time with my husband and explained exactly what he had done and came to see me to make sure I was OK and so did the Anaesthetist, they were both such lovely people.
I was on Clark ward for 2 nights and I cannot fault the care and support I was given there even the cleaner and catering staff did their jobs well.
I have since had my follow up appointment and all is well, again my consultant and the cancer care nurse were great. I have been very lucky and have had a good result following this diagnosis, but I contribute the fact that I am as well as I am now to the professional, and compassionate care I recieved at the Kent and Canterbury urology department.
