I thought communication was improving in the NHS with people introducing themselves to patients with the phrase, "Hello my name is ...". This idea does not seem to have been introduced at Fairfield General Hospital. Last night my partner was a patient in Fairfield General Hospital's emergency department. He was seen by more than eight different members of staff. Not a single one said, "Hello my name is ...", introduced themselves in any other way, gave their job title or said whether they were a doctor, nurse or whoever. He was not treated as a very urgent case where such niceties would have wasted critical time. It would be nice to know who was asking you personal questions and providing your care.
