Whenever I think of the wonderful midwives at the hospital, I cry a little! I was induced Wednesday morning and eventually had my big bundle at 20:27 on the Friday via c-section. My midwives in delivery were just the most amazing people I have ever met. They both knew my wishes for birth and unfortunately, my baby was just not wanting to budge by herself so I had to review my ideas. After the handover between shifts, I still felt in control and safe. Unfortunately, I didn’t progress and after 6 hours on the drip, was still only 4cm. I had a time limit due to my waters breaking, yet never felt under pressure and my midwives continued to make me feel like I could do this, even though the odds were against me.
The midwife was so encouraging, and despite me losing my mind, made me laugh! I will never forget how she got me through everything and will always be thankful to her for her encouragement and belief. My stay in Bassett Ward was outstanding, both before birth and after wards. I was looked after, provided with plenty of feeding support and just general love and nurturing. I didn’t feel like a number, I felt like a person, and it was so lovely when I came up after my section to see some familiar faces I had been with the previous 2 sleepless nights. I loved every minute of my stay, was kept informed of any decisions and given the opportunity to provide my own thoughts and feelings. For some reason, the delivery unit has received a lot of negative press recently. I hope the midwives, MCA’s, doctors and consultants realise this is not the norm and all I’ve heard is positive praise for them. The midwives are pulled from pillar to post, and definitely underpaid for the amazing job they do. They are most definitely superhuman and deserve so much more recognition than they get. Thank you so much to everyone, I will never forget my positive birth experience. Xx
