"Can't fault The Elms GP"

About: The Elms Medical Centre

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I can't fault the practice, they are very attentive to your needs. Paula (receptionist) is my angel - if I am stuck she gets it sorted. She is absolutely brilliant. We have great receptionists. Jill is also great. They have been here since I have been, which is nearly 20 years, so they have so much experience and willingness to help. The doctors in the surgery are also great. Dr Hussey used to see my mum in a different room to avoid her coming through the waiting room when she was on chemo. I've seen Dr Davenport recently, for the first time. She was also lovely.

Getting an appointment is fine. They are spot on where appointments are concerned. I called about 8 and was told that the doctor would call me. They were on straight away and I was offered an appointment for 9. I had to ask them to make it a little later because I was dropping my granddaughter off at school because of the bus strike.

The only thing I’d improve is re-ordering of prescriptions. It has always been good but in the last 12 months it has become a bit of a problem

I moved my mum here because she had a bad GP at her previous practice. Here they used to have a young doctor here called Dr Wakefield. I'd give him a medal if I could. He was so good when my mum got lymphoma. She had breast cancer and was unwell again and was having more tests. There was a complete breakdown of communication at the Royal but Dr Wakefield spotted that lymphoma was on the hospital records but that they hadn't told us. He got an appointment with a haematologist and then got it moved forward to get her urgent treatment.

My Mum said "Although the communication with other departments at the Royal hadn’t been good, the haematology team at the Royal was fantastic, I finished chemo in June 16, the cancer nurses were great. I told the haematology doctor that I felt more at ease because he'd told me more than anyone else. I wanted to know.”
