"The doctors were intimidating and aloof"

About: Prince Philip Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I was a patient in day surgery.  Feeling extremely nervous and anxious.

Only one member of the staff put me at ease and all it took were a few words of compassion. The doctors / surgeons were intimidating and aloof.

Whilst I am very aware of how hard the staff work and long hours they put in -  please just smile at your patient and say just a few words to make them feel at ease.  YOU are doing the job day in day out and so to you the patient is just another number but that patient could be you or your loved one. How would you want them treated?

I would like to thank the staff who do have compassion patience and empathy.

On behalf of the Day Surgical Unit, I want to extend my sincere apologies for the negative experience that you received at the Unit. We pride ourselves on giving our utmost every day and aim to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere for all our patients. It is very disheartening to read your comments and would welcome the opportunity to meet and discuss your experience in person.

Please be assured your feedback will be discussed within the Team. Our philosophy is to create an environment where patients feel safe, comfortable and able to discuss their fears and anxieties freely.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Patient Support Team 0300 0200 159 if you wish to meet with me or wish to discuss your experience further.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback, it is appreciated.
