"No appointment and concerned for my sight"

About: University Hospital (Coventry) / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

After having my eyes tested due to a problem with my vision in one eye she referred me to my gp who then referred me to see an eye specialist.

The booking forms came through within 2 weeks to go online and book an appointment, logged on to book to be told there were no appointments available and that someone would contact me. This was the start of August.

At the end of August I received a letter saying I was on a waiting list for an appointment. It is now the start of November and I still have no appointment and concerns for my sight in my eye! I have emailed the booking department with no reply.

I'm lost with what to do, with no help from my GP, who said she'd had to wait a long time as well (no help to me).

Hi Emma,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of trying to get an Ophthalmology appointment at University Hospital. I was very sorry to hear that you have had such a long wait.

I have spoken to Stephanie Turner, Admin and Access Manager in Ophthalmology and she too is very apologetic about your long delay. Whilst we do have a long waiting list for this service we are disappointed that you haven’t been kept well informed about your referral. If you are still waiting for an update on your appointment you can call her on 02476966502 and she will be able to give you more details about your referral.

If you would like to discuss your care further you could also contact the Trust’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0800 028 4203. If you would prefer to contact them by e-mail, the address is feedback@uhcw.nhs.uk.

If you do decide to contact us, please make us aware that you have left comments on the NHS Choices website

We appreciate all feedback, both negative and positive, as it helps us to better understand what is important to our patients and where we may need to improve.

Thank you again for sharing your views on NHS Choices.
