My father was admitted with life threating sepsis, and pulled through, so that part of his care was very good, however basic nursing care was poor. Don't tell me you are over staffed and over worked, in ICU it's one nurse to 2 patients, one of which was on a ventilator, and was monitored every 10-15 mins ...by looking at her and the machines and ticking the boxes on a chart. My dad was left 24hrs in a dirty gown, that he had spilt food on from trying to feed himself, he was left sat up in a chair for hours, not walked enough, in pads so his bottom got sore, never verbally re-orientated, no clocks or calenders. No encouragement of drinking more. Received one shower in 8 days. He is Catholic..was on his chart since he got Last Rites on admission, and the following Sunday, no arrangements had been made for communion or even a priest visit during the week.
When family asked how he got the infection , no one seem to know, doctors where hard to find to talk too, even told to make an appointment.. when he did get to Ward 37, the doctor said no urine had been tested in the previous 9 days and he had ordered one... that's disgusting ... one of the big causes of sepsis is a UTI !
"try not to go there"
