"My mother is in hospital for the 3rd time"

About: Peterborough City Hospital / Geriatric Medicine

(as a relative),

my mother has been in hospital and let out twice without being well. so she has been to A15 and B14 - so far this has been the best ward - but like the other wards there are some serious flaws in service and communication. most of the time there is no-one manning the phones to find out what is going on.

As next of kin I have to dig for information on what is going on and after 17: 00 weekdays and weekends there is no consultant or doctor to talk to - so what happens when things go wrong. Trying to find nurses is difficult as there are simply not enough of them and I can never find Matron at the times I go to the hospital.

I had to write to consultant and asked for the Dr to call me or write back but this has not happened. My mother has dementia and there is no point is asking her questions about history of health - as she will not remember. While in hospital the dementia is getting worse but there is no plan to deal with that.

Could they not find an experienced specialist to find out why the chest has not cleared up after 6 weeks of being on anti-biotics. over and over again there are some great staff and then some who are not so good but there is not enough staff on the ward and this affects quality of care. some of the food served cannot be steamed and the menu needs to altered to take this into consideration. the drinks are fine but the snacks so basic and poor

I am so sorry to hear about your experience and I am obviously concerned about the comments you have posted. We want to ensure all of our patients receive good quality care and I am disappointed that this is not what has happened in your case.

If you would like to discuss this in more detail please do contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01733 673405. Once again my apologies that not all of your encounters have been positive.

Regards

Lesley Crosby
