What I liked
My 88 old father has been in Wythenshawe hospital with a number of problems over the past year - Stroke, Gall Stones, Fractured Femur and therefore has been in quite a few wards.
The quality of nursing care has largely been excellent, especially in Stroke Rehab Ward F4, which I thought was exemplary, and Wards A3 and A2 were also vert good. I thoght the care he had in Ward A5 after his arthroplasty operation for his broken femur left a little to be desired. I was somewhat concerned for his mental state, and consequently I persuaded the helpful physiotherapists to let me take him home a little earlier than they would have wished, but I thank them for their co-operation, and I now sure that my decision to have a slightly premature discharge was correct. I am not criticising the operation for the arthroplasty , which has been successful and was carried out quickly and obviously with high skill and surgical competence, nor am I critically complaining about the nursing care in A5 , but I feel it was below that which my father had experienced in other wards.
Overall, I think Wythenshawe Hospital has cared for my father over his problems during the past year efficiently and with consideration, and I would recommend Wythenshawe Hospital to anyone without hesitation.
What could be improved
A&E waiting times and their triage procedures have always been a problem when my father has been brought in by ambulance - not good for the doctors to have to keep apologising for the delays and errors each time my father has been brought by ambulance.
Needless to say, the parking charges are a total disgrace bordering on extortion..
Anything else?
Generally, all taken into consideration, I am very happy to have Wythenshawe as my local hospital.
