I had a total hip replacement at Wrightington Hospital in April 2017. The care I received was excellent and without fault.
I was fully consulted about all aspects of the operation beforehand and had a very positive surgical experience as a result. Theatre staff worked as a cohesive team and made me feel safe and secure throughout. My dignity was respected at all times, and everyone took the time to introduce themselves to me personally. The anaesthetist was exceptionally skilled in translating my requirements into just the right amount of sedation enabling me to recover quickly with no side-effects. Particular thanks also to the nurse who met me at the Theatre doors, who was kind and caring and very skilled at putting people at ease.
In terms of aftercare on the John Charnley Wing, the same efficient multi-disciplinary team working was in evidence with rigorous nurse led post operative monitoring and quick access to physio, OT and discharge medications. Nursing staff were very busy but were always responsive (even in the dead of night), and always kind and compassionate. The fact that many of the staff had themselves been patients on the Wing was very reassuring.
The staff involved in catering and cleaning were also key to my positive experience, They played a very important role as constant friendly faces across the different shift changes.
Needless to say, levels of cleanliness were exemplary reflecting the overall sense of a very well run and efficient unit.
I am now recovering well at home and am very pleased with my outcomes to date. These are undoubtedly a direct result of this high quality care coupled with the skills of a highly talented and kind surgeon to whom I am very grateful.
Thank you to all.
