"Early Bed bathing"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow

(as the patient),

I was an in patient at the stroke rehabilitation ward in the langlands building. I've been recently discharged and I would like to voice my concern about nurses giving patients bed baths as early as 05. 30. There was an elderly lady in the next bed to me who routinely had a bed bath very early in the morning and In my view,  as far as I could make out,  this was to help out the dayshift staff.

I really was concerned about this as I felt that a) this was far too early and was under the impression that this practice is actually not meant to take place.

And b) surely In my opinion  nightshift staff shouldn't feel under pressure to "help the dayshift"

I work in a small team within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Part of the team’s role is to support patients and carers through our feedback systems which will help to improve the services we provide. On Patient Opinion, I support Lorna Gray, Patient Experience Public Involvement Project Manager, and Niall McGrogan, Head of Patient Experience Public Involvement.

Dear concerned in Glasgow

Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention. Your post has already been shared with Geraldine Marsh, Associate Chief Nurse Older People's Services. Geraldine has asked me to let you know that your feedback is being looked into. She has already discussed your post with her senior team, lead nurses and ward nurses and wanted to assure you that this is not common practice on our wards.

I hope that you are now doing well following your discharge.

Best wishes
Lisa
