(as the patient),

I was in last week to get my kidney removed.This visit made me aware of the shortage of nurses. They all do a great job but are so understaffed. I didn't always get my pain medication on time when asked for due to other patients requiring help. I hope that they are able to fill all the vacant posts very soon. No-one should feel that they are a 'nuisance' for requesting help. They didn't make me feel like that but I can see how easily this could and will happen.

Dear Mortisha,

Many thanks for your post and I hope you are recovering well after your operation. Firstly can I apologise that you did not receive your medication in a timely manner as we would have liked and hope that this did not cause you additonal stress or effect your ongoing recovery.

I also hope that patients do not feel a nuisance to staff when asking for help and would encourage all patients to escalate any concerns that they have whilst in hospital.

Our staff strive to deliver the best care in a timely manner that they can to all our patients but I am aware there are staff vacancies in some areas and we are working as an organisation to improve our staffing levels and improve recruitment of staff as well as monitoring staffing levels within each ward on a daily basis to ensure safe effective person centered care is being delivered. I hope this provides some reassurance to you.
