I gave birth at Arrowe park hospital last march,I had a bad birth but did have a great midwife who made things that little bit better but after a day I was moved upstairs to the post natal ward and left to struggle on my own. I couldn't walk as i was so weak from all the blood i had lost so had to buzz for someone to take me to the toilet,I had to wait up to 15 mins for this, which made me feel like crying as i didn't know if i would make it. I couldn't get up to go get food when this was served and most of the time nobody came to ask if i wanted anything to eat. The staff gave me the impression that they weren't impressed that i couldn't get up and walk, not once did they say anything nice to me. I hadn't wanted to stay in hospital to be looked after as i had another child at home and i wanted to get home to be with my family. I relied on my husband while he was at the hospital to help me and asked to leave as soon as as i could walk as far as the toilet and back. This ward was obviously under staffed and did not offer what i would call a good standard of care, having a traumatic birth can effect a mother for a long time after the birth.
