Following surgery to my rt shoulder i had to spend a night in one of the wards. I must say i was very dissapointed after my surgery went on very well that the staff in the ward were not very compassionate. I was left in agony untill i rang my husband to bring me pain relief from home. As a nurse myself i know that the best way to manage pain is to give pain relief before the pain gets worse. Regular pain relief and breakthrough pain relief if a patient complains of pain. I was so degraded that as a nurse it left me not so proud of my profession. The nursing staff need to have training on pain management. The most unfortunate thing is i also work in the same speciality of trauma and orthopeadics and i also treat patients who go through the same type of surgery that i had. I hope that other patients dont have to go through the same treatment that i recieved. I take pride in my profession and hope that the staff that looked after me should as well and treat patients with dignity and respect.I would like to thank the team of doctors that looked after me for the job well done.
