I visited NGH today with my father we were brought by ambulance which his GP advised he was left in a corridor for 2 1/2 hours which with his COPD isn't healthy for him and I had to ask for oxygen for him he was then put into a cubicle and put on oxygen. Another 1 1/2 hours passed and he was finally seen by a good doctor, as the hospital was really busy I took my dad to the toilet and when we got back the staff had taken his bed and bumped my dads belongings on the floor with no explanation I asked a nurse where his bed had gone and I was told someone else needed it so my dad who is 75 years old, who cannot walk without aid had to sit in a hard plastic chair and put his oxygen back on. I complained to the doctor and the doctor agreed with me that this is disgusting, a senior sister came to see my dad as they had heard we had a complaint to apologize to my dad but they tried to justify taking the bed by saying the hospital was busy and they found the bed without anyone in it so they took it.
I am outraged and disgusted how this hospital can treat anyone so cruelly. I was told also told that I could complain but I would be put through to the same senior nurse who I had already spoken to so there would be no point. I appreciate the hospital was busy but they took no interest in the welfare of my father who had to spend another hour on a chair. The nurses gave me 3 different reasons why they took the bed 1st an older person needed it,2nd they had someone who was bleeding, and the 3rd someone had collapsed so which is correct and My dad is not a well man and the action of the members of staff is very appalling.
"Disgusted"
