Following a Angiogram, I was told that I needed a Heart bypass urgently, it had therefore been fast tract and would be done on the 23rd December. A week before that date I received a letter canceling that date giveing me a new date 29th December, On that date I phoned the Hospital to confirm a bed was available, I was told there was a bed. On arrival I was told there was'nt a bed. (it is a almost a 3 hour journey from home. ) I was given a new date 17th January, We had made plans to accommodate the new date, my wife is disabled I am her registered carer. I then received a letter giving me a new date 10th January, we had to revise our plan, Getting somewhere for my wife to go. On arrival at the hospital I was given a bed, settled in, a friend took my outdoor clothing and my wife to where she would be staying. I spent the night in the Hospital, I was told I would be the first into the theatre in the morning. At 6am I was woken by a nurse saying to me time for your pre Op. shower, and to get into the gown Provided, this I did, then got back into bed as the nurse had said. A notice was put onto the bed headboard "Nothing by mouth". I then waited And I waited. At about 2pm I was given the pre Op. tablet to calm me etc prior to the general anaesthetic. At about 3pm I was told because there wasnt any Intensive care beds therefore my operation is canceled, I will have to come back with a new appointment. In the half doped condition I had to phone my friend to come all the way back and collect me. I will add to all this, it has been very upsetting for my wife.
