"Away From Home Emergency Admission"

About: Russells Hall Hospital / Cardiology

My admission followed a velodrome cycling accident, late evening, my first stay in hospital since birth sixty years ago. Hygiene standards were tip top, and having worked in food production all my career I know what clean looks like. Two weeks of a well varied selection of very edible food, combined with high quality care that blended professional standards and a personal touch with welcome humour meant a rapid recovery and a move to a rehab unit. This achieved despite my muliple fractures not being the speciality of the ward I was admitted to. One concern that clearly surfaced was the very high variation in care needs for patients depending on patient attitude compared to clinical needs. Staff managed this with great skill and diplomacy, but in simple language"difficult" patients are a considerable stretch on resources. The final note was returning some three weeks after discharge to have two staff spontaneously recognise me. Thank you so much.
