"Their support meant so much to us"

About: Leeds General Infirmary / Maternity care St James's University Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was at home getting up for work like I would any other day, and my partner  was also getting up and he noticed I had been bleeding, I was 22 weeks pregnant, I had awful belly ache and we was both worried but we had previously just been for a scan and everything was fine, so I got up and went to work like normal, then told my mum once I got to work (we work at the same place) and she said straight away to phone the hospital which I did and they insisted I went through to the St. James's maternity assessment ward, so I went home and me and my partner went through to the assessment ward, they were so relaxed and so helpful and even though they brought me bad news they were so supportive and kind, they asked questions and did checks and eventually after an hour or so they did an internal examination with like a smear type thing which revielevd I was 4cm dialated and my cervix was open, my heart sunk, I was beside myself, I didn't know what to do or what to think, they explained what this meant and that I needed to be kept in to be checked and see what they could do, I was soon moved onto the delivery suite, where they were so supportive yet again and explained everything I needed to know, which was long story short I was in labour, I couldn't have the stitch and there wasn't any way they could stop it, I had to let nature take its course and see what happened and I expected the worst, it was the worst day of my life, I was laid in a hospital bed worrying about planning my little girls funeral, where do I start, what do I need, what would she want!

After 19 long hours,  I gave birth to my gorgeous baby girl at 23 weeks weighing just 600g which is 1lb 5oz, my baby was soon rushed off to be worked on but she came out breathing and while ever she was trying to fight the staff and everyone said they would help her and they did, pretty much straight away I got rushed to theatre as I lost a lot of blood, theatre was rough, I felt shocking but everyone was amazing' everyone was so caring and helpful and explained everything the best they could, my baby was taken away by embrace the baby moving team and she went to LGI to the nenonatal ward, I stayed at St. James's to recover and soon after I was taken to LGI to the recovery ward, post natal I think, I got to go see my baby Isabella whenever I wanted, I could not thank every single member of staff that dealt with me, my partner and my daughter enough, the work they all did was amazing and I am ever so grateful, without everyone's help I wouldn't of had the 2 days with my baby that I did and 2 days may not seem enough but to me and my partner and our family those 2 days are everything! ! ! I got to cuddle and kiss my daughter, tell her what she meant to us and how much we loved her and how much we would miss her! I owe my life to those staff on the nenonatal ward, thanks to them my baby didn't suffer, she wasn't in pain, she got lots of cuddles and kisses and was so well looked after! My life will never be the same without my gorgeous daughter, but thanks to everyone I got to have those memories, I got to meet her and cuddle her and be with her until the very end! ! ! Thank you to everyone! No words will ever explain how very grateful both me my partner and our families are! ! !
