"Bureaucracy over patient welfare"

About: Nevill Hall Hospital / Maternity care

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was admitted to maternity tonight, she is young and this is her first child. Her baby's father has been made to go home she is now isolated in unfamiliar surroundings and completely on her own. Instead of being a peaceful birth, in the birthing pool at our local birth centre it feels like she has been transported to hell!  It is a very frightening time and she has been isolated and ignored. There are a number of empty side rooms on the ward why is it so difficult for them to allow the father to stay so she has some support? We live 20 miles away, the weather is appalling, the father may now miss the birth - for what? For petty minded bureaucracy!  Since when was bureaucracy more important than patient welfare? How can it not be better for fathers to stay and be supportive and be there when they are needed? I am absolutely disgusted with the way my daughter and her partner have been treated and really don't understand why. Surly ensuring that a mother feels secure and supported should be a priority? This isn't the 1800s have we learned nothing about patient care?!
