What could be improved

Having visited the Ophthalmology Dept four times in the last two weeks I have found the length of time you can expect to be seen is 1hr after your appointment.

Surely these waiting times need to be addressed.

Anything else?

Having been referred to Clayton from York Hospital where I was initially treated for my eye injury I am totally disheartened with the difference in the level of care provided at Clayton.

On my first visit I was told that they didnt have any information on my accident although York had told me that they had faxed my notes to them.

I have visited Clayton four times in the last two weeks and seen five different Doctors.I have found myself having to explain over and over the same thing as there seems to be liason between them.

I attended on Saturday 24/04/10 and was told that my next appointment for the end of the week would be posted out to me.Still no appointment by wednesday so called the appointment line and told no record of any appointment made so can I ring the nurse at Clayton direct. Finally I received a call back with an appointment.

I attended Clayton on Thursday 29/04/10 and concerns were brought to my attention as to the pressure in my eye,I then was told to go for a scan and when I returned I would see the Doctor again, only to find myself seeing yet another Doctor!

Eventually was told to return on Sat morning.

I arrived at Clayton for my 10am appointment and yes another 1 hr wait even on a Saturday.

Once in with the Doctor the first words spoken by him was to apologise because they cant find my notes,so can I bring him up to date.

I'm afraid this was the final straw and I feel this level of care that I have received whilst at Clayton is unacceptable.

Suffering a major trauma to one of your eyes is hard enough to deal with without having all these problems on top of it as well.

I know the NHS is massively underfunded and the staff do seem to be doing their best but I'm afraid my experience at Clayton is one I would rather forget.

We are in the proces of recruiting additional clinical staff in Opthalmology and this should improve waiting times. With regard to the other comments, we are concerned to note these and would invite the patient to contact us directly on 01924 212672 in order that we may investigate.
