The NHS has saved my life three times in the last 10 years.
1) Prostate cancer (Middlesex Hospital- old)
2) Septicaemia ( Whittington Hospital- very old)
3) Aneurysm (UCH Hospital- very new)
Each hospital differed in age and equipment but the medical treatment was excellent in all three. This time the NHS had been keeping an eye on me for 5 years after discovering my aneurysm when treating me for septicaemia. This new year it was decided to operate and in the next three months underwent a series of tests and was admitted in April. I was given an epidural which allowed me to be awake during the operation. As I was wheeled into the operating theatre I did a quick head count. There were 14 people just for me! This was top class service indeed. The operation was successful and I was home in 4 days. The service, wards, nurses, doctors were excellent keeping me informed at every step as one who can remember pre-NHS I cannot believe the difference between them now, literally another world. The NHS is the greatest.
