I attended for a review following a hysterectomy to remove cancerous tissue, at St Mary,s Manchester. My consultant arranged this local clinic for me since I am severely disabled with both types of arthritis.
All support staff, nurses and doctors were extremely helpful with the exception of the person who carried out my review. Entry to the room was very difficult with chairs in the way of my wheel chair . I do not know the status of the person I saw but they did not offer to move the chairs nor were they able to help me. Lying on the bed is very hard for me and was only possible when I asked if there was a nurse who could help me. An examination using an instrument was incredibly painful and in the end not possible. Another consultant was called in and was kind, understanding and reassuring. They carried out a manual examination and insisted that a note was added to my record that no instruments were to be used in my examination. I expect the first person had had a difficult day and found me an unsatisfactory patient.. Nevertheless, they were not fully prepared for me. I had my original biopsy under anesthetic and stayed overnight at Oldham Royal Infirmary under this team, so the group had known of my disabilities and problems.
