I was referred to the surgical evaluation department with an abscess, after a very short wait I was ushered into a room where one of the doctors and surgeon took a look at the problem, I was given antibiotics and asked to come back the next day. The next day I turned up a slightly longer wait than the previous day but a reasonable time as there were a lot more people there. Once again I was ushered into a room where the doctor saw me and explained that I would have to have surgery. I have always had a fear of hospitals and in particular the very thought of having any kind of operation terrified me but everyone I came across was amazing they were patient, considerate and reassuring at every stage. The anaesthetist happily took the time to explain everything and yet again reassure my fears, the nurses were friendly and helped to take my mind off things. Even the porter taking me up to surgery was thoroughly pleasant, as I was waiting to be wheeled in the surgeon who had seen me the day before stopped to talk as they were passing on their way to get ready. The aftercare I received was faultless, I had missed dinner by the time I got back from surgery and was by that point very hungry, this was no problem for them as they arranged a sandwich and some crackers for me. The staff at Royal Derby really have been fantastic I can’t praise them enough and I am happy to say that after my experience there I am a lot less scared of Hospitals.
"Great Care"
