"Is there an I in team?!"

About: North Middlesex Hospital

Went to children's A&E. After a fairly long wait, my son was seen by a doctor who sent him to X-Ray only to be told by the radiographer that he is under the age to have an X-Ray. The radiographer was extremely rude and when asked what the alternative was, I was met with 'I dunno, you need to go back they will tell you there'. The the doctor in A&E was new and was unaware of this and apologised profusely which was understandable, they then sent us on our way with advice to take ibuprofen and avoid contact sports/activities. This information about the minimum X-Ray age could have been relayed to the doctor several times during the process of waiting around and no one did; although several times I was asked my sons date of birth. Work together NUMH and a much smoother process and customer experience you will gain.

Thank you for your feedback.

The information regarding minimum age for X-ray will be reviewed and circulated. You also mention that you were asked a number of times to confirm your son's birth date.

This is standard procedure to ensure that every time a new clinician or nurse begins treatment on a patient, that the information relates to the correct patient.

There are lots of patients with the same name or date or birth and by checking this information each time, a new clinician or nurse establishes they have the correct patient and avoids mistakes. I am the manager of paediatric A&E, Manisha.patel10@nhs.net and will be sharing your comments with the team.
