My husband was admitted with subdural Haematoma in March. We were happy with his treatment, but unfortunately he was given the wrong information by a member of staff when he was told that he must surrender his driving license to D.V.L.A. (He was told the same thing by one of the local G.P.s). When he was signed off in June, he was told that he should only have informed D.V.L.A. that he was not driving, and why, and then tell them when he started again. He has had to apply for his license to be returned; D.V.L.A. sent a form to the hospital on 7th. July, which we know they received four weeks ago. Last week we had a letter form D.V.L.A. saying that as the form had not been returned they had sent a reminder. We live in a small village with an infrequent bus service, and being without the car (I do not drive) has been a major problem and deeply frustrating. Our friends and neighbours have been very helpful, but we can't be constantly asking them for lifts, and the loss of independence has been a really difficult to cope with. We have been told that, as the consultant has cleared him he can now drive without the license, but it would be reassuring to have it just in case of any problems - we also have nothing in writing to say that he's been given the all-clear. So much aggravation could have been avoided if he had been given the correct information in the first place.
