I had a preventative double mastectomy in March of this year and still attend Empress Unit for follow up work.
I can honestly say that I have had nothing by the most lovely care from the consultant, the nurses and I have felt extremely confident in the care and procedures that I have had so far.
After my operation I was transferred to a ward - I was lucky enough to go to the very last ward at the end of the hospital and had a side room (I can't remember the name of the ward) and the nurses and nursing assistants were amazing. One was particularly lovely to me and made me feel that I wasn't just a number but a real person. They came in every day and asked how i was, how my day was etc and they just rock.
The nurse who did my dressings on the ward was amazing too. They were so gentle and kind and very aware of the discomfort i was in and so did my dressings gently but really well too.
I hope that my words can be passed on to the brilliant staff in both Surgery and the ward as my care was exemplary and, considering I changed my mind from having my operation at St Thomas' to your hospital, I feel that I made the right decision 100%
I was also seen and discharged by a Consultant on a Saturday. I just wish our Health Secretary could have been there to see that your wonderful doctors do work at weekends ;)
"Cannot praise the staff highly enough"
