I am a registered nurse based in Torbay hospital gastroenterology department. I have always been proud of the care this trust provides.
However, on 11/3/16 after 2 weeks of abdominal pain, I self admitted and was taken to McMillan ward. I underwent a variety of examinations and tests including a CT. The following surgery disclosed a complex appendicitis with peritonitis. All of this carried out over the weekend I might add.
In conclusion (finally you might be saying) I wish to offer an explanation for the title of my review and divulging my personal experience.
From the moment I was seen by the surgical team to the ward staff in their entirety, the CT radiologists, anaesthetics and theatre staff and of course the porters (deep breath) I was treated with dignity, compassion, professionalism and genuine care.
As a nurse working in this hospital nearly 20 yrs I have never before been in the situation of experiencing our care form the patients perspective. The mirror view to mine as a nurse.
Words will never be able to explain how grateful and proud I am of the professionals that work at Torbay hospital and in particular the afore mentioned whom saved my life.
Thank you so much, and keep up the fantastic good work that you do.
Tracy.
