Today my GP referred me to the RSCH for investigations for a persistent headache.
From the moment I entered the hospital I was treated with respect and kindness. The receptionist took my details paying careful attention to my confidentiality which I was impressed by.
On admission to the new ambulatory care unit I was seen almost immediately by and kind, caring & efficient nurse who was thorough in their assessment of me, they pre-empted what the Drs would require and rather than waiting for the Dr to see me took bloods, did an ECG and a complete set of OBs they then promptly got a consultant who again listened to my history and ran some neuro tests, another Dr visited minutes after and ran more tests. Within an hour of arriving I was in the CT scanner, again the radiographer and their assistant took the time to explain everything to me. On return to the ambulatory ward I was offered tea, coffee and sandwiches while I waited for my results. As soon as the results came back the Dr came & explained findings (thankfully nothing was found) I was struck by how friendly they were and that despite the unit being clearly busy didn't give the impression of being rushed. Having being given the all clear a health care assistant promptly removed my cannula and I was free to go. When I found out I needed to go to the hospital I was dreading it, I envisaged hanging around for hours and being treated contemptuously by stressed out, grumpy staff I couldn't have been more wrong. I'm glad I found this site & have an opportunity to say thank you to all of the great team who cared for me today!
