Brillant support for my daughter who had a very bad flare which ended up with her being bed bound. Her ME specialist nurse stepped in to help the family when the consultants G P s all thought she had a mental health problem and tried to get her sectioned.
The consultant from queen Margaret came out and said no mental health issues this is a physical illnesses! He came to the case conference and explained her symptoms both in ME terms and the symptoms that did not fit the pattern. This lead to my daughters re admission to the Victoria with the advanced support and knowledge given to the ward by Keith. He fought to have her tested the result was POTS as well as ME without him my daughter would still have a label and no apology from the consultants and GPs who had jumped to the wrong conclusion.
He continues to support her with her ongoing challenges without him for knowledge and down to earth guidance she would be more on the phone to her new G P as this is a nasty disability which flags up different symptoms all the time.
What could be improved? mutual respect works in all directions. Other professionals need to look out of the box, when specialist nurse highlights concerns, listen.
