We attended A & E with my 10 year old child after having 3 heavy nosebleeds in the space of 36 hours. After waiting for 1.5 hours we saw a triage nurse who moved us onto the out of hours GP situated outside the Children's A & E ward as we were advised that we would be seen much quicker there. After another 1.5 hours the GP advised us that they were not able to treat the nosebleed we would need to see an ENT specialist and go back to the A & E department. After 3 hours wait the children's A & E advised that my 10 year old child had already been discharged and if I wanted to be treated at A & E I would need to register again and wait about 3 to 4 hours to be seen.
The result being that my child has still not been treated and continues to have regular nosebleeds. I am now waiting on an emergency ENT appointment. The doctors and nurses in the children A & E appeared to just be passing the buck so as to keep their waiting time down without actually treating my child. Their uncaring attitude towards an unwell child expecting them to wait another 3 or 4 hours was shocking. I will be making a formal complaint and will be advising all parents that I know locally to be wary of being passed off to the out of hours GP
"Children's A & E very poor"
