Was referred to the sergical assessment unit by my gp arrived at 6:30pm and wasnt actually seen by a doctor until 10pm when there was only 4 other patients there. Once on ward c31 I was met with some very rude and abrupt nurses who either took longer than 20 mins ti answer my buzzer or forgot I asked for pain medicine and made me wait 4 hours. Signed my surgery consent forms on the thursday morning and was kept nil by mouth from midnight that night. On the Friday surgery day there was an issue with my canular and it had to be removed. From then it was a struggle to get another one in and nurse after nurse as well as a junior doctor tried. The junior doctor who didnt was their hands or have gloves on tried and caused me so much pain even the pain meds didnt take away the pain. By Friday afternoon 4pm I was that dehydrated and faint no one made it a concern that I had no food water or iv fuilds since 9am that morning. I was finally told the op would not go ahead at 5pm but I could eat and it would happen on the Saturday. 11:30pm on the Friday night while sleeping I was awoken to be told I needed to pack up my things. As I was moving wards once on ward E15/16 the level of care was outstanding. The nurse who looked after me was caring and attentive explained everything that was happening going to happen and manage to get a colleague to put in a canular pain free in a clean manner and within seconds. I even awoke the next morning to see they had hooked me up to iv fluids while asleep so they was obviously very gentle in the whole process. Come saturday morning I was told there would be no operation due to time and my gallbladder being inflammed but I would be sent a date to come back in two weeks. Which made me upset as I had been in hospital since Wednesday evening. Today monday I call the necessary unit to see if there is any progress info on a date and time to be told there is an 18 week waiting list. This is not the first bad experience ive had at QMC and if it was affordable to me id go private from now on but now I guess im going to have to wait the 18 weeks dosed up in morphine with 3 young children
"Absolutely appalling"
