Came under PRH consultant led care after being confirmed GBS+ & high BP. Frustrated at the distance from Oswestry but the care was excellent. I had 2 trips previous to labour due to rising BP, senior mw there performed a S&S at 40+2 which did the job! Arrived at 7ish next morning & met mw who was lovely. Very supportive throughout, good sense of humour, explained everything clearly, I struggled during final stage but the midwife got me through. We had concerns re tongue tie & this was noted when baby had first checks. I also had confidence issues with breast feeding but the immediate support was fabulous and helped me to succeed with this. Postnatal care was very good, I was transferred down to mlu unit where everyone was friendly and helpful.
New Women's & Children's Unit is amazing, great to have an ensuite labour room (previous labour at Shrewsbury involved wandering down a busy corridor after birth for a shower), very clean and everything needed was there. Only criticisms would be design of building; arriving with contractions every 2-3mins and had to walk a maze of corridors and lifts to get to the labour ward, not brilliant! Also parking, no meters by the W&C centre so my partner had to go and find one on other side of hospital even thought he should have been with me.
Meals were good, variety and portion sizes. I took an extra sandwich as knew I'd be hungry later that evening.
I asked for quick discharge back to Osw mlu and this was carried out as soon as they could.
I have recommended Telford PRH to a pregnant friend, she was previously under care of a different consultant led hospital but not happy with them, she has since transferred to Telford and is pleased with level of care.
"Impressive Women's & Childrens Unit. Great..."
