"First class service from Orthopedics and OT Service"

About: Western Isles Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I damaged my arm and shoulder about a year before I decided that I could no longer live with the situation.

A quick referral was made to OT service and I went through a programme of physio. This did not work due to the damage I had caused. I was given cortisone injections to alleviate the pain and referred for x-rays.

The OT's were first class as was the X-ray which took place immediately.

Very quickly I was referred to the care of Mr Predl, who identified that I had damaged muscles and ligaments and that my upper arm had been pulled away from the shoulder socket. In addition, it appears that I fractured my collar bone. Full options were discussed with me and the likely options. We jointly agreed that less invasive key hole surgery was used, to minimise risk of infection and reduce recovery time. I was also told that everything possible would be done at that time to minimise the likelihood of further surgery. I found the entire process very reassuring.

On the day of surgery I was welcomed and the usual procedures were undertaken. I was put at ease and everything explained.

I woke up, was checked thoroughly and was able to leave once I recovered later that day. It turned out that the procedure was a bit more complicated than envisaged but the team took their time and tackled the issues during the operation.

A full course of physio was arranged to fit around my home responsibilities and to build up strength in my shoulder and arm. Again, the entire team were fantastic.

Every single member of staff is a credit to the organisation and I would like to thank them for their care, thought and professional approach.

10 out of 10 from me.

Many thanks to you all.
