Following a fall during gardening causing back pain and spasms, I was given a prompt and excellent GP appointment, I was referred to the Ambulatory.. section at WGH and advised to attend promptly in order to be in time for an X-ray. This worked - the service I received at Reception and all subsequent departments was amazing. As I was in spasmodic pain, all staff I encountered were wonderfully kind, thoughtful and competent. At each stage of the attendance, I was fully advised of the next step and monitored by someone. This service was matched by the competence of the medical attention - quite outstanding. Interestingly, I learned early on in my working life (1953- 2015) that the best work comes from the least well-appointed premises - old factory building at WGC for Murphy Radio (TV Design), modified Nissen huts in Borehamwood for Elliott Brothers (Computing). So, although I feel sure that there is much concern about the Early Victorian? building, the internal building work allied with perfect maintenance - physical and cleaning - makes the whole process extremely effective. Amusingly, I have now cancelled my BUPA membership of over 40 years; to continue to contribute seems, to me, almost a slight to the NHS. And, finally, please convey my appreciation to all staff at Watford General Hospital J A Bailey
"Brilliant NHS service."
